Victims Identified in Fatal Charlestown Fire

CHARLESTOWN, New Hampshire – New Hampshire State Fire Marshal Sean P. Toomey, Fire Chief Mark LaFlam and Charlestown Police Chief Patrick Connors announce that the victims of the fire at 1B Crown Point Drive, in Charlestown on June 6, 2024, have been identified.  

The NH Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victims as 36-year-old Hope Schraer of Enfield, NH, and 38-year-old Allen Ballou of Royalton, VT.  The cause of both of their deaths was determined to be smoke inhalation and the manner of death was accidental.    

The investigation into the origin & cause of the fire is active and ongoing by members of the NH State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Charlestown Fire and Police Departments.

State Fire Marshal Toomey would like to remind all citizens of the importance of having working smoke alarms in your home. In the event of an alarm activation or visible smoke or fire, immediately exit your home and call 9-1-1. Keep exits clear and accessible at all times and have a home fire escape plan.
