One Person Deceased Following Residential Fire In Campton
CAMPTON, N.H. – New Hampshire State Fire Marshal Sean P. Toomey, Campton-Thornton Fire Rescue Chief Daniel Defosses, and Campton Police Chief Kevin Foss announce a joint investigation is underway after an early morning residential fire. One person is deceased.
Just after midnight today, Saturday, March 8, 2025, Campton-Thornton Fire Rescue responded to a report of a fire at a single-family home on Ellsworth Hill Road in Campton. When the initial crews arrived, they saw widespread flames and attempted a search of the home but were forced to withdraw due to deteriorating conditions and a partial structural collapse.
Assistance was requested and additional firefighters from the communities of Woodstock, Lincoln, Plymouth, Bristol, Waterville Valley, Rumney, Ashland, Holderness, Meredith, Hebron, New Hampton and Center Harbor responded. Members of the Campton Police Department and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation were also called to the scene to assist.
While firefighters worked to knock down the flames, they dealt with intense wind gusts, below-freezing temperatures and limited water supply. A passing snow squall also challenged access to the scene. The fire was later determined to be under control at 2 a.m.
An adult male has been located deceased inside the home. Two dogs were also located deceased.
The victim will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy to verify their identity and confirm their cause and manner of death. The autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow, March 9, 2025.
The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office and Campton-Thornton Fire Rescue are actively investigating the origin and cause of the fire.
